Project Description
Swietelsky Rail Australia was proud to partner with the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) to deliver the first ballast rehabilitation works under ARTC’s Network Investment Program Early Works Contract on the Sydney–Albury corridor. The project represented a significant milestone for both organisations, establishing a new benchmark for the delivery of mechanised track rehabilitation works on one of Australia’s most important freight and passenger rail corridors.
Delivered within a live operational rail environment, the project combined specialist ballast renewal, drainage improvements, track geometry correction and high-production resurfacing activities to improve track performance, resilience and long-term asset reliability. Leveraging SRA’s integrated “fence-to-fence” delivery model, the works brought together specialist plant, experienced rail professionals and detailed possession planning to maximise productivity while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
The project also marked the first operational deployment of SRA’s newly overhauled RM95 ballast cleaning system and MFS wagon fleet, showcasing the capability of modern mechanised maintenance solutions to efficiently restore critical rail infrastructure. Despite challenging summer conditions, the works were completed safely, efficiently and without incident, reinforcing SRA’s reputation as a trusted delivery partner for complex rail maintenance and renewal programs.
The successful completion of this first possession laid the foundation for the broader ballast rehabilitation program and demonstrated the value that innovative equipment, experienced crews and collaborative client relationships can deliver to Australia’s rail network.
